What's up with this reading challenge? I'm glad you asked!
It all started with a fairly simple question. Abbi (a high school student that I tutor) and I (a graduate student getting an MA in English) were plugging away at our work one day, and Abbi asked, "Emily, will you make a list of books you think I should read this summer?" Before she even finished the sentence, I was falling all over myself to assure her that yes, with deep pleasure, I would put together a reading list. As I was working on the list, I found myself wanting to re-read some of my favorites. Then I started adding books I'd never read but thought would be fun. Finally, I decided to join her on the adventure. I might have ended up with way more books than we can read in a summer--hence the "and Beyond!" in the title. Then I thought, "Why not blog about it?"
